With the construction of the new network for telecom operators, especially the characteristics of the 3G network, time synchronization on demand operators is becoming more and more obvious, and becomes indispensable. At present, the operator is used to deploy GPS receiving modules to realize time synchronization for each base station, providing accurate timing for communications. However, with the rapid development of the network, this approach can not meet the growing needs of the operators. In addition, the unreliability of the GPS, security, deployment limitation, the original time synchronization mode is gradually exposed. The urgent needs to adopt a more reliable, more secure way tosolve the problem of timing.In view of this situation, the design of a high precision time server equipment is very desirable for 3G networks.This equipment should comply with the requirements of the current telecom user’s technology andcan provide the timing signals for the BD/GPS systems and supply the ground reference signals as a backup to provide stable, reliable, accurate time synchronization, and frequency synchronization signal.With the development of time synchronization technology and updating of time codes, as well as widespread applications of the PTP technique, the timing precision of the equipments must increase from μs to ns level.This paper first discusses the basic concept of time synchronization. Then, the design idea of time synchronization equipment is described. In the following sections, the overall design is presented and the design of the main control system is described in detail, especially the FPGA design,the software module design, the design of the master control system for the time synchronization equipment. Among them,I explain the FPGA compiler environment,the use of resource,and internal function modules about the FPGA design part.And the software design part, I explain how to realize the design of uClinux and U-BOOT.The design of uClinux lies in its start-up, modify the system source code and add new device drivers.The design of U-BOOT lies in software transplantation and add new drivers.Because of the limited time, the master control system functional test of time synchronizationequipment is not perfect and has not been applied to the real Internet for field tests. Although there are problems, the practical application cam is improved in the future.The master control system of the equipment has realized reference access, signal output, network management, and the most important control accuracy. As the core part of the system, this design achieves the goals scheduled at the beginning. It can satisfy the business requirements from telecom operators; therefore, it is very promising to provide the system for commercial applications.
