The development of communication technology improves the error control technology in the wireless communication system. The hybrid automatic reQuest(HARQ) is a very important error control technology in the wireless communication system. The number of communication equipments in the wireless communication system becomes larger and larger; Users of the wireless communication system ask for higher throughput. The combination of network coding and HARQ can meet this requirement.Firstly, the traditional error control technology, such as the automatic retransmission request(ARQ) technology and forward error correction(FEC) technology is introduced in this paper. After that, the HARQ technology is discussed. Whereafter, the network coding technology is studied.Then, this paper studies the combination of network coding and HARQ(NC-HARQ) in the multiple unicast flows scene, analyzes the different schemes of NC-HARQ and gives the throughput expressions of different schemes. Subsequently, the simulation of different schemes is given, and the results illustrate that the NC-HARQ can improve the throughput of communication system.Finally, the application of NC-HARQ in LTE uplink is studied in this paper. The analyses and simulations of different schemes in LTE uplink are given. The NC-HARQ has a gain of 33% in the aspect of throughput compare to the traditional HARQ, which can be obtained by simulation. The results prove that the NC-HARQ is better than the traditional HARQ in term of throughput.
