With the construction and development of the smar t grid, power data has been growing rapidly in recent years. In 2010, the State Grid Information Collection System formally launched two years ago, has achieved acquisition and storage for various types of data because of its steady running. However, with the growth of terminal number and d ata collection, there is too much fault in collection terminals and on-site metering devices. Because of their wide variety and huge amount, it brought great pressure on users for on- site maintenance. There is an urgent need to develop a system which can intelligently diagnose fault, monitor online- fault and handle big data to help provincial companies improve management efficiency and save enterprise costs. The electricity meters online monitoring and diagnosing system will come into being. This paper describes the background and significance of electricity meters online monitoring and diagnosing system, analyzing the current development at home and abroad of the existing big data technology and power fault diagnosis syste m. In this paper,we study the Hadoop technologies, including the distributed computing framework Map Reduce, the distribution file system HDFS, the distributed warehouse Hive, and the expert systems. After presenting the requirement analys is, we design the architecture, function and database for the overall system. In the end, we have achieved critical modules of the system, including knowledge base module for troubleshooting grid, diagnostic module(divided into the extraction and conversion of historical data, fault calculation, knowledge rules calculation, and export of results) and so on. The realization of the system has effectively solved the problems of data storage, processing and diagnostic analysis for mass electricity meters, therefore, the system efficiency has been greatly improved.
