The Narratological Strategical Research On Character Features Of The Portrait

In recent years, due to the stiff competition among the media, as a brand-new report type,features, which have already become one of important ways of newspapers and reports, are getting more attention from the media. Apart from detailed contents and incisive analyses, features are also characterized by remarkable narratological characteristics, that is, like telling stories. Literally, features, which are the best model for narratological research on report types, enable readers to profit from spiritual pleasure and enjoyment.As for magazines, it is common that news figures are selected as covers. On top of that, exclusive interviews and features, in some cases, character features, are also considered as current programs of magazine, such as The Portrait. Since the new version popped out, The Portrait, whose slogan is ‘Human is the yardstick of everything’, has attached more significance to individuals’ multiple values while reporting on significant ones in present-day society. With objective perspective and detailed description, features of People magazine combine authenticity with literature, remarkably satiate readers’ expectation and reproduce gigantically appealing figures, which have a widespread impact on the society.On a basis of current research on narratological theories, this article adopts a case-study and text-analysis combination of methods, analyzing character features of The Portrait from narrators, views, time, structures and narratological skills respectively. In addition, this article, which could be a feasible paradigm of news writing practice and research, also summarizes narrative strategies, namely narrative skills and patterns, including the construction of character frames, settings of suspense and tension, descriptions of movements, the use of dialogues and storytelling patterns.To clarify, no narratological strategy can be utilized beyond objectivity. In other words, the truth is the life of the news, without which, the news would count for nothing, let alone narratological theory research. That does explain why the analysis of this article is based on objective news texts.
