With the development and progress of science and society, the image processing technology, the wireless network technology and the communication technology have made great progress, especially in the field of video monitoring. The video monitoring system introduced in this paper is a security and protection system based on multiple application technologies included embedded technology, video capture and compress technology, and video transmission technology. Embedded video monitoring system appears to meet with the customer demand of real-time video monitoring and management for the public place and their own house.Firstly, this paper elucidate the background information and significance, as well as the development status of video monitoring. Secondly, it introduced the overall design scheme of embedded wireless video monitoring system in detail, and analyzed the related technologies of each function module. The hardware platform of video monitoring system contains with various function modules, such as wireless fidelity, camera, LED display and USB connector, is based on S3C6410 processor. Video monitoring system uses embedded Linux operating system to construct the software platform, which contains system transplant, compiling Bootloader, system inner pit, and root file system and loader driver. The research uses V4L2 technology integrated in Linux system to collecting video image data. Video data compressing module uses advanced H.264 compressing coding technology, and coding efficiency is improved by optimizing various modules aiming at S3C6410 processor. The system uses streaming media technology of RTP/RTCP agreement to complete transmitting video information, which ensures the instantaneity and stability of video monitoring. In terms of Andriod client, the paper uses JNI technology to complete software design, and uses GUI to complete graphical interface design.At last, the system is debugged and tested under the constructed hardware and software environment of video monitoring, and the result is analyzed entirely. The result of this research shows that the design of wireless video monitoring system based on ARM embedding can meet the requirement of real-time, wireless and remote monitoring.
