Presently, antenna array has been widely used in many electric systems. In some occasion, however, plane array cannot meet the requirement on large scale beam scanning. Conformal array can be designed to conform to the carrier. In compare with the plane array, the conformal array can realize larger scale beam scanning. Meanwhile, for the moving carrier with high speed, the conformal array may not change the aerodynamics characteristic of the carrier. Conformal array has become a hot research topic.In this thesis, two antenna elements including the rectangle microstrip patch and the Vivaldi antenna were designed for the cylinder conformal array and cone conformal array. Two elements were bent to achieve conformal structure. The performances of two elements in the bending case were analyzed. It was shown that the performances of elements almost hold unchanged when the element size is smaller than that of the carrier.In the research of cylinder conformal array, the radiation performances of the linear array, arc array and circle array with the Vivaldi antenna as the element were investigated. It was shown that the axial radiation can be well obtained when the Vivaldi antenna was used as element. For the linear array, element shield can bring about the degradation of element VSWR. For the arc array and circle array, polarization neutralization can bring about pattern nulling in the axial direction. In the research, inclined placement of elements and phase compensation were employed to solve the element shield and polarization neutralization.For the cone array with Vivaldi antenna as elements, the linear array, arc array and circle array were analyzed. It can be seen that the VSWR performance of Vivaldi antenna on the cone was better than that of Vivaldi on the cylinder. In the investigation, the means of phase compensation was taken to solve the polarization neutralization issue for the cone circle array, and the scanning characteristics of cone arc array were analyzed.
