AS an open source system under Google’s vigorously promoting, not only Android has ruled for more than 50% market share in the worldwide in the field of smart phones, but also infiltrates in many of the original embedded system, such as Linux. Because of the open architecture, rich application resources, proven vendor environment of Android system, and Google’s vigorously innovation, we feel exuberant vitality abnormalities of Android system.The IPTV service of the China TeleCom is currently not only facing with how to expand the business with new value-added services, increase ARPU for each user, but also facing the current extensive online video competition. In this case, if the traditional IPTV set-top box switch to the Android platform, China TeleCom have to shift attention to the Android platform. On the new platform, Operators can continue their existing IPTV service. What’s more, a lot of businesses can easily expand beyond IPTV, such as somatosensory games, online education, family health etc.This thesis designs a CTCIPTV application on the new platform of the set-top box according to the characteristics of the Android system and China Telecom IPTV STB technical specifications. It focus on the design and implementation of several key modules CTCIPTV, including the medialib CTC_MediaControlm module, the browser engine CTC_Webkit_Ex module and access solutions in the Android platform dedicated to achieve dual-network access, IPTV networks and the Internet. The new IPTV terminal system has a beautiful interface, good interaction, and can meet the business demands. And because of the dual plane functionality, the other applications of Android system can easily enjoyed network, but will not affect the IPTV services.
