With the rapid growth of the national economy, especially the significant increase on the electronic commerce (e-commerce), the flows of domestic goods and services have become increasingly intensive and extensive over the past decades. As a result, logistics has become a crucial part of modern service industry and domestic supply chain. To managing the logistics effectively and efficiently, monitoring the position of the cargo has been a challenging issue in logistics management since the logistics process has the characteristics of high mobility and fast speed. More recently, logistics has been developed rapidly, and thus great achievement in this field has been reached by taking advantage of the maturity of location based service (LBS) technology and its large-scale application.This study proposes a city cargo distribution platform through applying the LBS technology. In this platform, a B/S structure is adopted by combining the address of the order with the Map ABC map. And then the platform compares and matches the original route with the real time locations of the cargo vehicle in order to provide a real time, explicit and visual tracking result to users.This study first introduces the application of the city cargo distribution platform and its technical background. And then the user’s requirements are analyzed. Based on the analysis, the functions of the platform are designed and the database for the platform is analyzed and designed. Thus a foundation for implementing the platform is constructed. The city cargo distribution platform uses the popular MVC framework, and integrates the three technologies including JSP, Struts and Hibernater. This paper focuses on development of the functions for distributing cargo to vehicles to demonstrate the effectiveness of the platform. In the platform, the display layer is realized by JSP; Through the POJO technology, the control layer of struts fulfills data exchange between the display layer and the model layer; The model layer uses Hibernate framework to realize mapping communications between the object and its related database. Moreover, the designed LBS technology based platform also supports intelligent mobile phones as platform clients. By taking android operation system based mobile phone as an example of the platform clients, specific function modules are introduced in this paper.Finally the application of the designed city cargo distribution platform has demonstrated that both the distribution management and the distribution efficiency of the enterprise have been improved. And thus economic benefits have been created for the enterprise. In addition, the designed platform is highly evaluated by customers and thus enormous social benefits are also achieved.
