Today in fact things are getting tougher:as mentioned before, the advent of new players is mining the dominant and once-undisputed position the traditional broadcasters used to have in the market, forcing thus them to rethink their business models and investment plans, and being obliged to leave space to these new entrants. Moreover, users’behaviors have changed consequently, feeling them an integral part of the ecosystem:a new social identity has been shaped, and now viewers are embracing an increasingly participatory behavior toward such sector, constituting communities around shows and programs, and creating therefore a brand new environment. Participation is both on the rating than on the production side:indeed, forms of users’generated contents (UGC) are becoming increasingly relevant and diffused, delineating thus a new era.All this must be accompanied to the innovation that has been developed on the device side:the five-screen world (i.e., TVs, connected-TVs, Mobiles -both smartphones and tablets-PCs, and games consoles) has become the new reality, allowing individuals to enjoy contents anywhere, anytime and on any device. This, however, must be considered in the light of issues that could arise in terms of compatibility of different contents formats among platforms, as well as of the legal framework considering both copyrights and spectrum-related issues.
