Public Archives Utilization Research

Develop Archive using level for the general public is an important trend of Archive work in recent years, which is also an important step for Archive departments to meet the social needs, integrate into the social community. But to improve the archives utilization of public is important and difficult, which needs to carry out targeted, according to the actual using needs of the public, therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the status quo of public archives using and demand characteristics is the basic premise for Archive department to further improve the public archive service. In this context, this paper will focus on the research targeted at the general public, investigating their behavior characteristics and archive needs, focusing on the research on the current situations of public archives using and behavior affect factors.The article reviews the current domestic research of the public archives utilization, summed up the characteristic of the theoretical and empirical research. On this basis, using the method of questionnaires and quantitative analysis, firstly investigate and analyse archive using situations of residents in Suzhou city, knowing their using behavior situations and demand characteristics; then, using mathematical statistical methods, such as analysis of variance, cross analysis, test and verify the affect factors of archive using behaviors, obtaining the relevant empirical conclusions; finally, by the method of qualitative analysis, combined with survey findings, summarize the current specific problems which impede the public archive use, and propose targeted countermeasures and suggestions from three angles which are public individuals themselves, Archive department, as well as social environmental factors, hoping this study can be useful to further improve the public archives utilization level.
