With the development of the information technology, the demand of information transmission of people increases quickly, fiber-optic transmission technology becomes more and more popular because of its advantages of high speed, super capacity, long distance. The photonic crystal fiber technology as a brand-new optical fiber communication technology has been paid more and more attention by academics and industry group. The discovery of photonic crystal fiber marks the birth of a new type of fiber, and many of its particular property that conventional fibers don’t have. In recent years, researches on photonic crystal fibers has already been to the most hotspot and most frontland of new fiber technique field.The development and the current situation of photonic crystal fiber as well as many properties were briefly introduced in this article, these properties including the single endless mode transmission, the flexible dispersion, the controlled nonlinearity, the adjustable mode area, the high numerical aperture and so on, and these novel features that the traditional fiber didn’t possess. Meanwhile many analysis methods in theory were presented, such as finite difference time domain method(FDTD), finite element method(FEM), plane wave expansion method(PWM), effective index method(EIM), multipole method(MM) and so on. Then, the basic principles and ideas of finite element method were introduced in detail.In the end of the paper, an analysis and simulation software of COMSOL Multiphysics that was based on finite element method was introduced, and the usage of this software to simulate photonic crystal fiber was also introduced. Then, model effective index, cladding effective index, normalized frequency and effective mode area of photonic crystal fiber were simulated and analysed using RF Module of this software. Then, structure parameter of photonic crystal fiber including different air hole package layer, same duty ratio and different duty ratio impact on each characteristics were analysed in the wavelength of 1.05um-1.95 um and in the refractive index of 1.40-1.49 respectively.
