In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the importance of Radar Electronic Warfare in modern warfare, many new and advanced technology of radar jamming and anti-jamming continue to be put forward. Ultra-narrow electromagnetic pulse interference technology, as a suppressing advanced jamming technology, is developed against the development of advanced radar jamming technology in modern electronic warfare. It’s a typical application of high-energy electromagnetic pulse technology. Its unique jamming characteristics, especially the ‘O ne Machine for Multipurpose’ and ‘Target Interference with Less Objective Information’, determine its promising application prospect in the field of electronic warfare. In this paper, the interference mechanism of ultra- narrow electromagnetic pulse for radar receiver and signal processing is analyzed to provide a theoretical basis and technical guidance for the use of this technology. The main contents in the dissertation and research results are as follows:Firstly, with the time-frequency characteristics and feature parameters, the ultra-narrow pulse signal’s mathematical model is introduced based on engineering practice. Then the characteristics of interference performance of the pulse signal are analyzed. In regard to the study on the interference mechanism of ultra-narrow pulse signal to radar receiver, methods of modeling or software simulation are used to analyze the impacts of ultra-narrow electromagnetic pulse signals with different feature parameters on antenna, limiter, mixers, low noise amplifier and other devices of radar receiver. The result shows that the degradation of radar detection performance are caused by radar receiver’s antenna, shunts and limiter.Secondly, based on the principle and performance of the surveillance radar, some related index and algorithm processes of the simulation system are determined. And the radar simulation system, which could simulate the overall working processes of radar, are accomplished based on MATLAB-GUI technology. The completed simulation system could implement signal generation, signal transmitting and receiving, processing of echo signal, graphically displayed interface and other functions, which provides an economic and efficient solution on radar system for the study of effect of ultra-narrow electromagnetic pulse signal on radar signal processing.Finally, in regard to the impact of the ultra- narrow electromagnetic pulse on the performance of radar signal processing, with completed radar simulation system, the ultra- narrow electromagnetic pulse effect on the performance of radar signal processing mechanism is analyzed respectively fro m the way of the interference repetition frequency, pulse width and pulse energy.The simulation results show that the interference energy in the bandwith range of the receiver antenna is the main factor affecting the radar detectio n performance. In addition, two common kinds of blanket interference model are introduced, namely the noise amplitude modulation interference and the noise frequency modulation interference. Comparing the performance and mechanism of the three kinds of the interference, the paper also shows that the characteristic of the blanket interference, such as the strong adaptability of the ultra- narrow electromagnetic and the relatively weak dependence on the target information and so on.
