Due to the wide use of power electronic equipments in industrial applications, the harmonic current that produced pours into electrical network increases the wasting and depress the efficiency of electric equipment. Harmonic problems have become the important factor that affects the quality of power supply. Active power filter is a new power electronic device which can effectively compensate harmonic and reactive current of network. APF have gradually been recognized as a feasible solution to the problems created by nonlinear loads. The paper discusses the basic principle of active power filter and the parallel active power filter’s configuration overall, then discusses harmonics detecting methods、controlling methods、designing the main circuit and other respects in detail. A RBF neural network controlling method is proposed based on the characteristic and disadvantage of traditional methods, this method has the high compensation precision and extensive, moreover, putting the soft-switching into main circuit can decrease the wastage when apparatus open and close, than advance the work efficiency of APF. The active power filter was simulinked in Matlab/simulink, the simulation results show that the new active power filter based on nerve network is correct and can eliminate harmonic current effectively. The control circuit and main circuit of active power filter are simulinked by hardware form. Finally experiment device applies TMS320F28335 of TI Corporation to follow up and control the harmonic currents which come from detective circuit. The experiment device applies IR2233 and 6MBI8L-120 to establish drive circuit and main circuit. The simulation and experiment results verify validity and effectiveness of the control method.
