A Research On Librarianship: From Concept To Principle

Librarianship is an important component of Chinese socialist cultural construction. For a long time, it has been treated as the object of study of library science, and which constitutes the main content of modern library science in China. But the researchers only briefly defined the concept of librarianship, or even considered it as a self-evident concept. This is bad for discipline construction and cultural development. Librarianship research is generally viewed as the basic theory of library science, which means foundation solids, earth trembles. Foundation research is valuable on scientific meaning as well as theory.So this research on the concept and principles of librarianship establishes first in the grip of the domestic and foreign research status of librarianship. By studying the historical and social usages of the term, and contrasting English concept of librarianship, we get a clear concept of librarianship of distinctive Chinese characteristics. Then it tells differences from librarianship elements, library elements, and the object of library science. From the angle of methodology elements and principles of scientific and philosophical usage, finally concludes the five elements of librarianship, namely, staff, resources, demand, methods and technologies, building and equipment, and using theory of digital library system defines the demand factor is the motor of the other four elements. Relationship of the five elements is a part of the principles librarianship. At the same time, principles should include national management system and social knowledge community. National management system includes three models, national centralization, diversification and grade division. Social knowledge community means the function and duty of librarianship in society lies in its knowledge-sharing.
