Along with the technical unceasing progress, we have been in the world made by semiconductor. The semiconductor device is closely related to our life. It is used in many different areas, not only in household appliances (TV, washer, refrigerator, electric lamp and so on.) and consume electrics (PC, cell phone, acoustics and so on.) areas, but also education, medical, transportation, national defense and aerospace areas.PWM is the abbreviation of Pulse Width Modulation, a kind of power controller IC. It provides the stable voltage output for electronic circuit via control the duty cycle in switch power. The performance of the switch power gets great improvement base on the appearance of high integration PWM IC, more and more areas start to use switch powers. And the switch power with the PWM has been one of the hotspot in power electronics. Today PWM has a lot of applications in the computer and telecommunication areas.Since the importantance of PWM IC, many semiconductor companies-Taxis Instrument, ST Micro, FairChild, Infineon, Freescale and so on-developed many different working voltages/currents PWM devices. The relevant sources of statistics indicate that the analog IC market was closed to 30 billions USD, the power control IC occupied about $6.5 billions. Power control IC is an important part of the analog IC. The revenue of power control IC has gotten the tens of billion USD per year, no semiconductor company can ignore its importance.The thesis will introduce the PWM IC’s history, function, architecture and operating principle, present the method of testing PWM IC’s electrical property. Meantime the thesis will provide a low cost, stable testing solution which bases on a domestic tester.
