The progress in the search on the instrument for tensile test has been quite slow both at home and abroad.At present;most of the fiber bundle tensile testing equipments in use in China are early type,such as Pressley,Shirley Bundle tester,etc.Those sorts of fiber bundle testers have a low degree of automation,backward technology,and low information.CSIRO of Australia introduced Sirolan-Tensor in 80's of the last century.Thought the degree of automation has increased,the bolder limited its scope of the application and the other changes a few, so that it can be used for wool measurement in actually.Although HVI system of the United States has fiber bundle tensile testing part,it can only be applied to cotton fiber bundle because it is only a unit of the system.With the quantitative and standardized testing fiber quality evaluation,with the growth in the import and export,inspection business in China and with the demand in the efficient and rational processing,it is necessary to develop objective,rapid,in-situ, multi-indicator,smart inspection instruments,and the sort of methods becomes the trend in fiber quality evaluation. It should be said that the fiber bundle tensile tester used in China do most come from abroad in both apparatus and methods.Since such methods and the basic characteristics of the devices,have been understand much more especially in the shortages of them,it becomes the basis and reference for the development of a multi-functional smart evaluation system with independent intellectual property for fiber bundle mechanical property measurement of new measuring theory,some efforts have been done and a new fiber bundle tensile tester, TMT-FiBTensor has been developed.Due to joined the quasi-tension carding sampling systems,automatic clamping and improved chuck,can analysis for different kinds of fibers including high-performance, high-strength fibers,added the automatic weighing system and automatic cut institutions,it can realize a fast,accurate,automatic measurements of beam fiber bundle linear density;introduced the high-speed CCD camera systems and acoustic emission system,it can analyses the fiber-bundle fracture ends and procedures by means sound, video data and their characteristics and the preparation of the operation and control software platform,it is probable to realize the multi-function modules measurement,real-time data analysis,features calculation,and performance evaluation for various fiber bundles,So that the TMT-FiBTensor has the characteristics of digital measurement and intelligent.The main functions and features of TMT-FiBTensor are:it can achieve the automatic ally and low-damaging clamping fiber bundles in the wide range of different sorts of fibers;it can automatic ally complete sample preparation,weighing and choose the optimize a parameters for fiber-bundle tensile testing;bundle tensile fracture shape it also can observe fracture-ends patterns of fiber bundles and measure the acoustic emission in fiber bundle breaking;and TMT-FiBTensor can do the real-time display and the background data processing rapidly as well as the printing of the testing report in the measuring period.This paper aims at the intelligent fiber-bundle tensile tester.The main purpose on the fundamental research of the smart fiber bundle tensile tester's basic measurement and hardware structure forming.We selected high-strength and easily slip fibers,such as silk and polyester, and conventional wool and cotton fibers to carry out the validating tests for the relevant parameters,tensile test condition,and the reactivity between both of them.The experimental results show that:with the gauge length increases,the specific fracture work increases;the fiber bundle strength and the elongation at peak point as the gauge length increases there was a downward trend;and relationship between fiber bundle initial modulus and gauge length is quadratic;similarly,the attenuation modulus in fiber bundle fracture zone increases with the gauge length increasing;and the attenuation modulus in fiber bundle fracture zone and initial modulus show negative correlation.This is consistent with the traditional conclusion,and better relative accuracy.It is confirmed that the TMT-FiBTensor is a practical and feasible ones, and it is superior to the traditional bundle fiber strength tester in functional,automation and data analysis.
