Recently, with the rapid development of information, wireless sensor networks have become an international major research. One of the main tasks of wireless sensor networks is data collection. Different types of sensor nodes can collect different types of data. How to provide users of better services in resource-constrained and node-intensive wireless sensor networks is an important issue for researchers to explore. So, it’s necessary to desire a fair and reliable transmission route to save energy and ensure quality of service. At present, domestic and foreign scholars have proposed many QoS routing protocols for wireless sensor networks. They have made great contributions to the development of wireless sensor networks.I have done the following works based on the previous study:1. Give an overview about background and significance of wireless sensor networks. The demand characteristics and challenges of QoS routing protocol for wireless sensor networks are introduced. Analysis the development trend of routing protocol with QoS.2. In terms of energy-aware, the paper presents a practical and effective non-uniform clustering method. It uses a new cluster head competition parameter to compete the cluster head. Comparing with the classic protocol-LEACH, the simulation analysis shows that the new method is feasible. And the analysis proves that the results of the method can solve the problem of node energy wasting, avoid the phenomenon of energy hole in heterogeneous networks. Also it can reduce the dead-rating of sensor nodes.3. Based on the non-uniform clustering method mentioned above, we designed a energy-aware QoS routing protocol. Regarding as an inter-cluster routing protocol, it can consider its real-time properties first before sending each packet. If the packet is real-time packet, it will have higher priority that can be sent into queue than non-real-time packet. If the real-time packet’s degree of urgency is too large that it cannot reach the destination node within its survival time under optimal circumstances, the packet will be discarded directly. The packet with larger degree of urgency will be sent to the destination node with the smaller number of hops and the better line without regarding the energy consumption of transmission. The energy factor will be well considered if the packet has small degree of urgency based on the satisfied of real-time properties. This design not only can ensure the real-time data packets, but also maximize the full use of the energy. At last, the paper simulates the protocol to evaluate its performance. Comparing with the simulation result of classical routing algorithm, we ensure the superiority and robustness of the designed protocol. The result of simulation shows that the clustering algorithm and energy-aware QoS routing protocol designed by this paper are better than the classical algorithms in terms of mortality node, routing overhead, end to end delay and packet forwarding rate.
