In recent years, communication software has become a popular and necessary software, such as QQ, Fetion, Wechat and so on. It is not only a communication tool but also a trend as people do not have to communicate each other by making a phone call or SMS.It is easy and safe for users by using the software and it helps people to improve efficiency by saving time during each communication.The usage of mobile phone software for texting, audio, video communication is a part of multimedia communication applications. The rapid development of the WLAN offers the opportunities for developers to achieve the audio and video software on the phone.This article introduces about designing an audio and video chat software working through WLAN which based on Android platform. It is convenient for people to communicate in the WLAN without any GPRS flows.Firstly, this article expounded the development of the audio and video chat software on mobile phone’s related technologies. It includes speech codec algorithm, video codec algorithm, streaming media technology, UDP and RTP. Secondly, according to the software module, this article explained the function of catch users in WLAN.Chose G.711 as voice codec standard and H.264 as video codec standard, used RTP as transmission protocol for real-time audio and video data, take advantage of signaling control function of UDP.At the same time, this article used multithread technology to comply the data receiving and sending, used the class and interface files from the Jlibrtp library to build the RTP session. Decode part used the open source FFmpeg library. The article designed two parts interfaces including the main part and the set part, and finished the function of pull-down refresh. After the test, this software runs properly on those mobile phones with the Android platform. It works well, and provides the function of audio and video chat in WLAN for users comfortably.
