With the rapid development of computer network technology, an increasing number of Internet resources use XML format to represent related data. Compared with HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language), XML has many advantages:(1) It possesses good expandability. User can define specific tags according to own requirements.(2) XML provides interface to different system for changing information. Different department use their own systems led to the problem of changing information. To solve this problem, XML is proposed.(3) XML follows a strict syntax requirement. For this reason, XML reduces the burden of browser developers and improves the efficiency of software development. However, when a large number of information use XML format to represent data, how to deal with XML data effectively is becoming an important part in our research. When we manage the XML data, encoding technology is a very important part. The scholars made a lot of researches and proposed all kinds of XML encoding scheme. In general, these coding schemes can be divided into three categories:interval encoding, prefix encoding and XML encoding scheme of supporting updating Data. These encoding scheme work well in some aspects, but in other aspects there are some shortages. To deal with the above problem, a new encoding scheme named MPES (modify prefix encoding scheme) is proposed. MPES is a modify prefix encoding scheme. The experimental results show that compared with fraction encoding scheme, MPES improves the updating efficiency of XML data; compared with prefix encoding scheme LSDX, MPES improved the querying efficiency of XML data.
