| The year 2015 is the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Philippines, and also the 70th anniversary of China during the Anti Japanese War and the world anti fascist war. China and Philippines have achieved independence through tenacious struggles. However, since 2012 the friction incidents between China and Philippines have continued to occur, resulting in increasingly tense relations between the two countries.Philippines is one of China’s maritime neighbors. How its national image has been presented in China’s mainstream media reports in the modern history of China. Whether there were conflicts and frictions between China and the Philippines in the modern time. If there were frictions, how the mass media repotted them. What are the characteristics of these reports, and how they are presented in the relationship between China and Philippines?The mass media has the function of surveillance of the social environment, which is also applicable to the state of the environment. In specific the mass media report the national and international news, and then the country makes corresponding measures timely and accurately according to reports in order to promote the social stability, safeguard national security, to maintain the interaction between countries. In the modern time, newspapers as a mass media, how it play the function of surveillance of the social environment. The Shun Pao as one of the mainstream media in modern China, how did it achieved the function by reporting the news between Philippines and China.This paper based on the news reports between China and Philippines during the year 1919 to 1949 of The Shun Pao as the main object of study. The original reports between China and Philippines published in The Shun Pao as the document literature. By summering and classifying all these reports between China and Philippines in the thirty years of The Shun Pao based on different classification, describe in detail the relationship China and Philippines. Then summarize the characteristics and the impacts or influences of all these reportsThis paper can be divided into three parts, including five chapters.The first part is introduction also is the first chapter of this paper, which describes the background, purpose and significance, review of domestic related research, the main contents of this paper, difficulties, innovations, and research methods.The second part is the main body of this paper including four chapters.The second chapter is the contents analysis of the news reports between China and Philippines in The Shun Pao. This chapter is the research focus of this paper. They are political, economic, diplomatic, culture, military affairs, and social life.
