Ad Hoc network is rapidly emerging as a wireless communication technology, it has a very broad application prospects and will occupy a pivotal position in the future network applications. Routing protocol is one of the key technologies of Ad Hoc network, its performance is important for the Ad Hoc network to work normal and efficient. The network load situation was not considered in the early classical routing protocol, on the one hand, it easily lead to the occurrence of congestion which will deteriorate network performance; on the other hand, it make network resources not been fully used of. The following protocols aiming to improve load balancing can achieve their purpose in some extent, were still have some deficiencies. In this paper, a lot of research works aiming at these deficiencies have been done. The main works of this paper are as follows:1. The development, characteristics, application fields and the requirement for routing protocols of Ad Hoc network and several kinds of classification of Ad Hoc network routing protocol have been introduced; the current status of the research of load balancing routing protocols in Ad Hoc network and its problems have been elaborated; the commonly used load balancing technologies of Ad Hoc network and a mature multi-path protocol AOMDV(Ad Hoc On-demand Multi-path Distance Vector) have been researched and analyzed. All the above mentioned technologies provide a theoretical basis for the later proposed load balancing protocol which based on AOMDV.2. Aiming at the deficiencies of these existed load balancing protocol in Ad Hoc network, a LBAOMDV(Load Balanced AOMDV) based on shunt transmission and congestion warning has been proposed. The protocol uses of AOMDV routing discovery mechanism to establish multiple loop-free and link disjoint paths between the two nodes. On this basis, a shunt transmission mechanism to realize that transmit data packets in these paths simultaneously to balance network load and a congestion warning mechanism to achieve the network load dynamic balancing has been designed.3. The LBAOMDV protocol has been realized by using NS2 network simulation tool and been compared with AOMDV, AODV(Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing) in different network load situation and different moving scenes. The simulation results prove that the LBAOMDV protocol can effectively balance the network load.
