Ad Hoc network is a multi-hop, autonomous and acentric system, which consists of mobile terminals with wireless transceiver, and it can be deployed rapidly without relying on any pre-established infrastructure, so it is applicable to some special fields such as succor, conference, military affairs, medical treatment and personal communication. The traditional Internet routing protocols could not meet its demand because of its own characteristics, so the routing protocols become an important research issue in Ad Hoc network. This thesis conducts a deep research on Ad Hoc On-Demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) routing protocol and discusses its route discovery process:lacking congestion control and load balance mechanism on RREQ message leads to the inappropriate main path selected by source node in many cases. This thesis proposes the AOMDV-L (AOMDV based on Load Balancing) routing protocol based on the traffic load and geographical information of the network in routing procedure. We use three parameters that are available in AOMDV:the number of neighbors of each node, the remaining lifetime of each active route in the route table of each node and the size of the buffer queue of each node. A mobile node that already has or potentially will have excessive routing duty should not act as a relaying node, so the AOMDV-L protocol can choose the relatively idle node automatically by adding congestion control to establish an appropriate main path. This protocol reduces the rate of packet loss as well as end-to-end delay and increases the network's overall resource utilization rate. This thesis introduces several typical routing protocols, and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages. Through the deep research on the AOMDV protocol, this thesis discusses the problem existing in the routing discovery process and puts forward the improved scheme. The AOMDV-L's function is implemented by modifying the code in NS2. Finally, simulation results show that our scheme gives an improvement.
