"TV host star" is an inevitable product of commodity economy and a kind of media competition strategy. Its essence is to optimize and upgrade the function of host in television transmission, then drive mass communication by human-to-human transmission, thus increase the spread of television efficiency and increase the income of the television media.China’s TV variety shows and entertainment programs began in the early 1990 s. Along with the variety shows flourishing, Ni ping, Zhao Zhongxiang and some other variety show hosts renowned domestic and turned into the first batch of variety show "host star" in China.In the mid and late 1990 s, the entertainment programs separated from variety shows, the pattern of "variety and entertainment programs" formed by the two kinds of programs. Industrialization changed the living style of the television media and exacerbated the TV industry competition. In order to adapt to the market and to obtain economic benefits, various domestic television stations began “packing” and “creating” star hosts by commercial means. Since the 21 st century, the variety and entertainment programs have become more prosperous. It was more common to see that the hosts were treated as super stars. TV media used further market-oriented way to operate hosts on the base of “host center system” and other patterns of making hosts to become super stars.Variety entertainment show host star in our country was, along with the market economy reform and the transformation and industrialization of TV media. In order to adapt to the demand of the fierce competition, TV media eagerly established its own brand. This was the direct motivation of the host star. The emergence of mass culture and consumer culture changed the audience view of media. The "audience centric” viewpoint and the swerve of visual culture provided TV variety entertainment show hosts power to become stars. Deepening democracy politics and developing the art of broadcasting and hosting in a various way provided good external conditions for these host stars.In the process of China’s TV variety entertainment show hosts becoming stars, there were some breakthrough and contribution, and some problems, too. In the future, if TV variety entertainment show hosts want to become stars, they needs to continue to improve their comprehensive quality and cultural influence, they need to establish personal brand. In the future, TV media need to continue to improve selection, training, management patterns and use market-oriented means reasonably in order to promote the TV variety entertainment show hosts become stars. At the same time, the audience also needs to improve media literacy and treat the host star with more rational and objective attitude.This dissertation is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is introduction, including research background, research significance, research status, research object, research contents and methods, etc.The second chapter is a diachronic investigation on China’s TV variety entertainment show host star.The third chapter explores the reasons of China’s TV variety entertainment show host star according to the television media, television brand shaping, mass culture and consumption culture’s influence on the audience analysis.The fourth chapter analysis the effects and disadvantages of China’s TV variety entertainment show host stars.The fifth chapter expects the construction of China’s TV variety entertainment show host star in the future.The sixth chapter is epilogue,which makes a summary of the whole dissertation.
