Ta Kung Pao was founded by Lianzhi Ying in Tianjin 1902. It was resumed publication by the Xinji Company in September 1926, thus it was called as Xinji Ta Kung Pao. Within the Xinji period, Ta Kung Pao played a significant role in the Chinese journalism history. Its reports of Japan was quite representative due to the particularity of its historical time and space. Lasswell pointed out that the supervision is the most basic function of public media. For a country, the most basic function of public media is supervision, in the mean time, it including two aspects ---- internal and external. Hence, the most basic function of public media and responsibility is how to get the latest dynamics and development trend of foreign country timely, accurately and completely.With the upgrading of the diaoyu islands confliction and Japanese removed collective self-defense incident, the relationship between China and Japan is slightly changing, and it has been in the media as well. The last year is the 120th year of the Sino-Japanese war, it makes the author reminds the Ta Kung Pao, that how did Ta Kung Pao get those reports of Japan and how did they complete their function of supervision in that wartime? The author hopes to inspire the present public media through those above.At present, the academic study is very limited in terms of Japan reports by Ta Kung Pao.The reports about Japan from other newspapers are also lack the viewpoints of journalism history. Professor Dan Huang discussed the issues of ontology of newspapers history in <The newspapers of history and the history of newspapers>, he claimed that the newspaper is the legal main part of newspapers history, as well as the key point, the scholars of newspapers history should stand on the position of the press, to explore the rule of newspapers’ self-development, rather than just as the waste papers of historical literatures. Therefore this essay is in this guidance of ontology thought, and discusses Ta Kung Pao’s reports about Japan from the angle of newspapers history. This paper takes the Ta Kung Pao’s reports about Japan from early September 1926 to end of August 1931 as the core historical materials (including texts and images), argumentations about Japan are also included in this research. The reports subject of Japanese individual, group, states in an article will be identified as "Japan report". As the change of relationship between China and Japan, reports that related to Japan by Ta Kung Pao changed accordingly, but compare with the after Mekdun Incident, it was still stable, it was easier to grasp the characteristics of Japan reporting. The choice of the period of time in this essay could be studied together with the researches of former scholars to become a whole.The first chapter of this essay focuses on the analysis of relations between Japan and Xinji Ta Kung Pao, and this essay will discuss their complicated relations through its founded and resumed, social background, and Japan’s policy toward China, to make a foundation that for below inspection in times of ups and downs, in what level of concern and understanding from Ta Kung Pao to Japan and how they present the image of Japan.The second chapter focuses on the analysis that the content of Ta Kung Pao’s Japan reports, and sampling 2,859 reports in total. Firstly, confirm their sources, and divide these sources into newspaper remarks, domestic telegrams, Japan and overseas telegrams, compiling Japan and overseas newspapers and magazines, reprinted national newspapers and magazines, other telecommunications, public letters, private letters and readers’ letters. Secondly, according to the Japan report is divided into political and economic class, social cultural class, military and diplomatic class, Sino-Japanese relations class and take them one by one into analysis.The third chapter analysis Ta Kung Pao’s Japan reports based on content and edit, and conclude the attitude of Ta Kung Pao reported in Japan. This essay will divide those attitudes into neutral, pro-Japanese and anti-Japanese, and focuses on whether Ta Kung Pao maintained serious and objective attitude.The fourth chapter of this essay mainly examines the influence of Ta Kung Pao’s Japan reports. Firstly discuss its publication, such as circulation, issue area, types of audience, and evaluate the scope and intensity that readers’ feedback interaction. Secondly, test the social impact that comes from Ta Kung Pao’s Japan reports. Finally, examine whether "Ta Kung Pao" and the government’s policy on Japanese in the same position, and then analysis the maintenance process of "outspoken"-----the traditional image from Ta Kung Pao.History has been known for us, but at the time, of the Ta Kung Pao and its colleagues could not predict "the future." In the dawn of national crisis, Ta Kung Pao hold their "remarks serve the country" to Keep the character, timely, comprehensive and objective reported the trend of Japan, and made a profound impact on the public opinion environment, to help people clearly recognize aggressive ambitions of Japan in a certain.
