Phthalocyanine complex is one type of organic gas sensors. Compared with inorganic materials, its working temperature is much lower. By adding substituents to the phthalocyanine ring, its solubility could be greatly enhanced in various organic solvents, enabling it to be fabricated into films by simple spin coating method. In this work, a liquid crystalline zinc phthalocyanine was synthesized and characterized. The liquid crystalline properties were manifest by TG-DAT and optical polarizing microscope. Spin-coating method was used to fabricate the films and the morphology change before and after annealing was observed and compared. The gas sensing properties towards N02were also studied.1、Liquid crystalline zinc phthalocyanine was synthesized starting from 4,5-dichlorophthalonitrile and dimethyl 5-hydroxyisophthalate to first give a white solid, which was then mixed with Zn(OAc)2·2H2O (4:1) and a catalytic amount of DBU in n-pentanol to give a green crystallized solid. The resulting product was characterized by NMR and UV-Vis spectra.2、The liquid crystalline properties were manifest by TG-DAT and optical polarizing microscope, showing the liquid crystalline mesophase is between 79℃-158℃.3、The films were fabricated by spin-coating method, and the morphology changed before and after annealing was observed by AFM and high-resolution optical microscope.4、The gas sensing properties towards NO2 for films before and after annealing were studied, and the optimum response temperature was obtained to be 60℃.It shows that after annealing the sensitivity of the film is lower than the one without annealing.
