The simulation of Chinese painting and calligraphy is the combination of computer technology and traditional art, which not only has important theoretical and practical value, but also has important practical implications for the heritage and promotion of traditional Chinese culture. In the virtual environment, natural realistically simulating the effects of real painting and calligraphy is the important target of virtual painting, and simulation of brush behavior is the key to improve the simulation effects. So studying on how to simulate the deformation and movement of brush under the action of force is significant.In the analysis of the physical properties of Chinese brush, sum up modeling methods of brush model and the summary of the writing techniques of brush, a new brush model based mass-spring model is constructed by analyzing the relationship between force and brush deformation. On this basis, by analyzing the deformation and movement of real brush subjected to force, a method of brush behavior simulation based on force feedback technology is presented. Then, according to the morphological changes and movement changes of brush, the brush stroke is obtained in real time by using the drawing algorithm, and the realism of the drawing process is improved. Finally, the stylized simulation of calligraphy is achieved by applying the above research results to the simulation of regular script of Chinese characters.In order to validate the availability of the constructed brush model and the simulation method of brush behavior, a series of simulating experiments are conducted in the virtual painting system based on force feedback technology. Experiment results show that the constructed brush model not only can reflect the actual physical properties of real brush, but also reflect the deformation and movement of brush. Furthermore, using Phantom Desktop to control virtual brush painting not only can perceive the changes of force in real time, but also realize the control of brush behavior by adjusting the force and position of brush in real time, which increases the sense of reality and the fidelity of simulation effects. At the same time, the simulation of brush behavior provides a certain reference for the further study of Chinese painting and calligraphy simulation.
