In the field of industrial product consumption, consumer demand more products with personality, it is very important to improve product design method. Virtual clay modeling (Virtual Clay Modeling, VCM) is a new CAD technology, virtual clay modeling system based on force feedback technology enables designers to complete the appearance innovative design of the product in a virtual environment, to improve the process of traditional sludge modeling and computer aided design methods, but lack of product surface decoration. Virtual3D painting process with force feedback technology, based on virtual clay modeling technology will realize the function of surface decoration to meet the designers a full range of innovative design and interaction requirements.This subject comes from National Natural Science Fund "The Study of Virtual Product Surface3D Painting Method Based on Real-Time Force Feedback Technology" project (51175058), studies the Chinese brush simulation based on force feedback technology. The Chinese brush model based on force feedback technology was built effectively by study the structure of Chinese brush. The brush model consists of brush geometrical model and brush mechanical model. According to the brush behavior in the actual painting process, the mechanical behavior of brush was analyzed and necessary parameters of brush in painting process were extracted. To calculate deformation quantity of brush model and force output by the force feedback device in painting process, the relationship between pressure and brush deformation were constructed. So that brush simulation based on force feedback technology was realized.The virtual painting system framework is built in Open Inventor by using Microsoft Visual C++, and Phantom Desktop Device is essential equipment. The experiment results indicate that user could control the whole Chinese brush in painting process via force feedback equipment. Since adding tactile feedback on the basis of the visual analogue and it is user friendly with simple control, the typical art effects of virtual painting are realized successfully. It is of great significance to further promotion on the development and progress of the virtual surface painting, and to improve our product design innovation capability.
