The set-top boxes with automatic standby function not only can save the power consumption, but also can prolong the service life of set-top boxes.This topic constructs the Linux experimental environment using VMware in XP system. It uses serial port to connect PC with Huawei Ec2108 set-top box, then enters the set-top box system and operates in the middleware level, overriding the system configuration file to increase the standby field and key press handling file. At the same time it uses HTML language to design standby show page in the Electronic Program Guide (Electronic Program Guide, EPG), and cooperates with timer logical design together to realize function in order to achieve the subject purpose.This subject has basically achieved set-top box automatic standby function. Besides the users also can set the standby time while choose the automatic standby function.
