RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is an important automatic identification technology, and it is one of the key technologies of networking technology. Complete RFID system generally includes reader, tag, computer networks and applications. The number of tags is huge in practical application RFID systems. If the cost of tags is too high, the whole system will cost too expensive. Therefore, the high price of tags is an important factor limits RFID technology to become universal application. Tags made up mainly by the chips and antennas, the cost of the antennas in the RFID tags manufacturing cost is accounted for a large part. Therefore, using new technologies to reduce the cost of antennas become the key of researches in reduce the high tag price. In this paper, combine with the emerging printed electronics technology, Studies using inkjet printing technology to make RFID tag antennas, designed to reduce the manufacture cost of the tag antennas.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic components of RFID system, and then combined with the electromagnetic field theory describes the radiation field and parameters of antenna. This work is focus on the antenna impedance matching design and use HFSS to simulation. Two tag antennas were designed, both are impedance matching with NXP chip SL3ICS1202.Secondly, ink-jet printing technology has been studied for the DMP-2831 inkjet printer, determined the status of the printer and the setting-up of print parameters, deal with substrate materials before printing and the heat curing process of nano-metal ink materials after printing were studied.Thirdly, printed the two tag antennas and tested the parameters and performance of the antennas. Including measuring the tag antenna metal layer thickness and resistivity; and S parameters were measured and calculated the input impedance according to S parameters. Finally, connected tag antennas and RF chips, made them into semi-finished tags-Inlay. And used of ultra-high frequency reader to measure the read range. Experimental data show that the reading distance of the two prepared tags were respectively 3.96m and 4.45m, and it meet the general application requirements in libraries and supermarkets.
