3D display is an important research direction in the field of display technology. The traditional 3D display which needs auxiliary tool isn’t portable. It’s very meaningful to design a practical 3D display system with simple structure. The naked-eye 3D display technology based on parallax barrier has become a hot spot because of its simple structure, easiness of realization, excellent display effects. Still there are problems in 3D display system need to be solved, such as moire fringe, insufficient brightness, narrow visual area, and crosstalk, etc. In consideration of these problems, select of best tilt angle of parallax barrier, the optimized design of slit width of parallax barrier and the optimized design of structure of parallax barrier are mainly studied. The main work is summarized as follows:Firstly, the structure of multi-view 3D display based on parallax barrier was designed using parallax feature, as well as light path mode was built. The relationship among the system parameters are analyzed in detail, the design method of multi-view naked-eye 3D display based on sub-pixel arrangement is discussed. Then, the traditional vertical principle prototype with a grating tilt of 0° was fabricated.Secondly, considering the selection of tilt angle of the slit grating, the image obtained from the composition of parallax barrier and black matrix was used to do the Fourier Transform. The periodical feature of black and white moire fringe is quantitatively analyzed in the frequency domain, then the optimum tilt angle of parallax barrier with the minimum moire fringe is selected as 12°,27°. Moreover, in order to avoid the distortion of the three dimensional composite image, the sub-pixel tilt of 6°,9.5°,12°,18.4° has been selected by analyzing the principle of arrangement.12° was the most matching one considering that the grating tilt must be compatible with the sub-pixel tilt.Thirdly, the remaining to the problems of the principle prototype has been studied in detail including high energy loss rate, serious crosstalk, narrow visual area, etc. The contradictory relationship of the three was analyzed according to theory qualitatively and then through the numerical test of the three changes with the slit width, quantificationally obtained the optimal slit width. The experimental results have shown that the optimized viewing area size has increased by 9mm and the crosstalk value has reduced by 2.3%. The light energy loss rate has only increased by 0.07, which has a high value. Moreover, the structure of tilt parallax barrier is optimized and the staggered design method of slanted barrier is presented, which can reduce moire fringe and increase visual area. Compared with the vertical grating, the frequency of moire fringe can be improved by 0.14/mm, as well the visual area can be increased by 3.4mm.Finally, A naked-eye 3D display based on ladder interlaced raster with 4 viewpoints, grating tilt of 12°, size of single visual area of 19mm, a crosstalk of 10.3%, was achieved.
