In order to improve the situation of the increasing crowd in the city, the urban railway construction is accelerating in China. By the end of 2013, there are 87 urban railway lines in 19 cities covering 2539km. For such a huge railway system, a highly reliable railway control system is necessary. CBTC (Communications Based Train Control) is the most widely used technique in the recent urban railway control system, because of its outstanding characteristics:independent of track circuits and continuous, high-capacity bidirectional train-to-wayside data communications etc.The WLAN based on the standard of IEEE 802.11 is the dominant wireless communication technique in CBTC. However, because the WLAN works on ISM band that is free to the public and the portable wireless communication equipments in this band is increasing, the potential disturbance is unavoidable. In the support of the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, Shanghai Shentong Metro has cooperated with Shanghai Horizontal and other institutions to carry out the research focusing on the new generation of CBTC train-to-wayside wireless data communication system based on specific frequency, McWiLL is adopted as the wireless communication technique in this system, which is self-owned intellectual property in China. The author assisted the Shanghai Horizontal and Shanghai Shentong Metro to complete the design of the train-to-wayside wireless data communication system, and finished the design of the vehicular radio independently, including design and debugs of the hardware circuit and software program. After that, the author tested the performance of the vehicular radio by building the simulation test environment in the lab, and assisted the Shanghai Horizontal to complete the test of the train-to-wayside wireless data communication system in the Zhangjiang metro test line. The test results show that the system goes well, the performance of the vehicular radio also meet the requirements. This article may provide some reference and inspiration for the research of the new generation of CBTC train-to-wayside wireless data communication system in the future.
