Design Of Hardware And Software Of Electronic Paper Book Based On Linux

With the rapid development of network and constantly enrich the content of the information,Using paper as the main carrier of recording information has already become increasingly unable to meet needs.People have paid more attention on green reading and environment protection. The radiation and power consumption of LCD display cannot be accepted by people.Based on this background,the electronic paper (E-paper) technology came into being.E-paper based on E-ink technology can be folded and as flexible as traditional paper,but also has low power consumptions backlight, no eye injury and can be read as well as paper.The E-paper book designed in this paper has multiple functions,including document reader,music player, Wi-Fi and 3G network access,etc. It is easy to be carried and has low cost and power consumption by using the sophisticated embedded technology.The E-paper book which meets the need of information recording and green reading has wide market prospect and great significance.This article analyzes the background and development in the world of E-paper book.It introduces the technology used in the E-paper book,such as E-paper technology,embedded technology, network technology and graphical interface tool,etc.Propose the overall design of the hardware and software by analyzing the requirements of system. In the part of hardware,it uses four-wire resistive touch screen and 6-inch E-paper display which is controlled by GD6201E chip.Choose s3c2440 as the core processor which has high frequency, rich API interface and MMU module.Use 88W8686 as the wireless control chip which has low cost and high integrated, EM770W UMTS M2M as 3G module which supports WCDMA and TCP/IP protocol, UDA1341TS as audio module control chip which has low-power and full-duplex.In the part of software,it uses embedded Linux operating system.Design the E-paper driver with framebuffer which is a special interface of Linux and design the driver of touch screen with input subsystem.GUI programs designed by Qt/E tool include many functions,such as document reader (support txt, html, pdf), image viewer (support bmp, jpeg), music player (support mp3, wma),Wi-Fi and 3G network interface, soft keyboard and web browser. In addition, it also needs the portable Linux kernel and file system and kinds of library to build the software environment.In this paper,E-paper display,touch screen,device drivers,applications and network function have been tested at room temperature.The result shows that such functions are all stable and the E-paper book has a good display and operating experience.The hardware and software are both designed rationally and can work as well as it expected.
