Thanks to the advantage of small volume, high capacity, less weight, high voltage, long working life and no pollution, the lithium-ion battery has been wide used in each field. As the main equipment for producing the lithium-ion battery, lithium-ion battery winding machine plays an important role on the quality and quantity of lithium-ion battery. So far, the technology of lithium-ion battery winding machine falls behind the abroad. Most chief controller is PLC, which is not so good at some advanced control algorithm. Besides, PLC is so expensive that the cost of the lithium-ion battery winding machine is raised accordingly. Hence, a control scheme which not only has high performance but also has low price is very valuable.After analyzing the production engineering of lithium-ion battery, a control scheme based on digital signal controller (DSC) is proposed. This scheme consists of the hardware design, the software design and the tension control design. The hardware design fully considers the demand of the system, the expansibility and the capacity of resisting disturbance. STM32F407VE, which is based on ARM Cortex-M4 core and manufactured by STMicroelectronics, is adopted as the main controller. All the hardware circuits are discussed and their operational principle is analyzed. The PCB layout is imitated the PLC structure, whose distribution is placed according to their function.About the software design of the system, the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) of the embedded system and the configuration program of the upper monitor are introduced. The overall architecture of the embedded system program is analyzed. The MODBUS communication protocol program and the stepped motor control program are explicated. The software structure is also imitated the PLC scanning period arrangement, which would do good to the reliability of the system.In the chapter of tension control algorithm, how the tension forms under the rolling process is analyzed. Then the main reason of the imbalance of tension is simulated based on the mathematic model of the rolling mechanism we built. The indirect tension feed-back control algorithm combined with the rolling-back speed feed-forward control algorithm is proposed. The experiment result shows that the performance of this combined algorithm is really significant.The embedded control system based on DSC proposed in this paper for the lithium-ion battery winding machine has been checked and accepted by the co-operative company. The embed control scheme show an excellent stability under the working circumstance. In addition, it has not only reduced the cost the lithium-ion battery machine, but also has a better performance in solving the imbalance of the tension under the rolling process.
