Research On Exploitation Of Industrial Heritage Archives

With the development of technology, many local industries gradually withdraw from the stage of history, but also left a large number of valuable industrial heritages. Industrial heritage archives is part of the City Memory, plays an important role in carving history of the city. In recent years, the development of industrial heritage becomes another benchmark of the urban planning and construction, leading the use of industrial heritage archives. But how to develop the use of industrial heritage archives, deserves the attention of all relevant departments. From the perspective of records and archives, the author attempted to analyze exploitation situation of Nanjing industrial heritage archives during the times of Republic of China, and then identified problems, proposed some appropriate solutions.This article is divided into seven parts:Chapter Ⅰ introduces the background, purposes and meanings of this research, analyzes the research status of industrial heritage archives from domestic and abroad, elaborated the research content, method and idea, and at last concluded the innovation of this article.Chapter Ⅱ presents the relationships with industrial heritage archives and some other related concepts, and gives the definition of industrial heritage archives, describes the types, characteristics and value of industry heritage archives. And the author also discuss the theories about the development and utilization of industrial heritage archives, the feasibility and necessity of the development and utilization of industrial heritage archives from three aspects of departments, board departments and urban culture.Chapter Ⅲ is an investigation of the status of the development and utilization of industrial heritage archives in Nanjing, and depends on the resources of Second Historical Archives of China, Nanjing, Jiangsu Archives and Nanjing Archives, we find out two major sources of industrial heritage archives, thus the administration departments and companies. So the author introduces displays and exhibitions, publications and database as the achievements of the exploitation, pointed out problems like a lack of cooperation, planning, attention, laws and standards and so on.Chapter IV focuses on the archives exploitation among members of Association for Industrial Archaeology, like Greater London Industrial Archaeology Society, Leicestershire Industrial History Society, Somerset Industrial Archaeology Society, Cumbria Industrial History Society, The Industrial Heritage Association of Ireland, Cuffley Industrial Heritage Society. Then raises some experience as the leader of the exploitation, information organization, an expanding range of records, which China could learn from.Chapter V presents the solutions of the finding problems above. Starting from the supervisor, principles and consequence of the exploitation, the author suggested publishing books, building specialty industrial heritage museum and special databases. base on the development environment, we need to implement laws and regulations, strengthen the government leadership, increase publicity of industry heritage archives as soon as possible.Chapter VI makes a brief review of this thesis, points out the limitations and disadvantages of this research, and presents the future of this research.
