Subculture theory has maintained offering insight into identity, theoretical point ofview on which changes from generation model to structural model, then to identitycomplexity. Since subculture theory has been questioned in recent years, it’s appropriateto discuss the applicability and reliability of subculture theory from researching theidentity of its group.Cyber self-mockery is a typical and emerging phenomena of youth subculture. It’sbeen popular and enjoyable for on-line youth to describe themselves and their lives inself-depreciation style. In cyber self mockery subculture, the interaction betweendazzling discourse and paradoxical identity also implicate the join force of new mediaenvironment and cultural, social and structural factors.To analyze the effects of media environment, we start from discourse space,whichis expanding,flowing and directing, show the multiple effects to youth cyber discourse.Internet develops to a widely-spreading and fast-rotating whirlpool of discourse space,the symbolistic signs and fragmented styles in which direct to the interspace ofdiscourse and cultural meaning.Combining the constructional interaction between discourse and identity, thisdissertation analyzed the context of culture, society and structure. Now, the activitiesconcern meaning and identity is reversible, through which people split their identity andthen hold back together. We can no longer classify the subculture group simply byfactors like sex, social class. Cyber self-mockery people go through identity-splitting,identity integration and identity suspended. And, Cyber self-mockery subculture,constructed on such identity base, dynamic and difficult to balance, is recreation, ironyand differance, which is influenced by new media and cultural, social, structural forces.
