In modern society, many emergency incidents like fire occur frequently. Facing such an emergency, most people in panic do not know how to escape quickly. Escaping in a wrong direction not only result in unnecessary casualties, but also indirectly difficulting the rescue. In this paper, we will develop an Indoor Emergency-Escape-Guide System (IEEGS) based on wireless sensor network (WSN). When the wireless sensor network nodes detect the fire, IEEGS will show the escape path for people trapped to get away from the fire as soon as possible. At the same time, the fire location and related information will be sent to monitor center and the firefighter, helping the rescue.The main work of this paper is as follows:First, we research on architecture, characteristics of wireless sensor network and related technologies, including sensor technology, LED display technology, radio frequency communication technology and serial communication technology. We choose ZigBee as the wireless communication protocol, and the ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 protocol standard and the implementation of Z-Stack protocol stack will be further studied.Second, we design the function modules of IEEGS, including the main node module, the instruction module, sensing module, power supply module, background monitoring system and the algorithm for emergency escape guide. We also define the interface standards between the instruction module, the sensing module and the main node module.Third, we implement a demonstration of IEEGS, which is running well with 10 nodes in practical environment. When fire happens simultaneously in different places, IEEGS can dynamically give the correct escape path according to the change of environment.The experiment results show that using wireless sensor network technology to achieve IEEGS is practically feasible.
