In the food processing industry, the colour of materiel is an important criterion as well as an effective means to evaluate products’quality.Whiteness measurement is a sort of method to appraise color and lustre, it mainly react on food industry. In the food industry,put the whiteness detect system into processing product line, according to detect whiteness,the system can control and adjust artifactitious degree.Another use of the whiteness measurement system is to detect the manufacture which is processed.Put the finished products compare with the standard pattern to evaluate products’quality. But, because the technology of whiteness detect is not perfect in our country, many corporations have to import foreign machines. China is a large agricultural nation. So, the development of a whiteness detect can be well suited to China’s actual situation and widely applied in the food and products processing industries. It will bring great economic and social benefits.Through studying and comparing the theory and shortage of whiteness detect system at home and abroad,the paper confirms whiteness detect scheme by combining chroma theory.The system mainly designed the photoelectric detect module.The D65 illuminance is simulated by halogen-tungsten light to shine pattern,the 45/0 illume-observe geometry condition is adopted, and the photosensor which is composed by sensitive photodiode S1226 and red,green,blue filters is adopted. The photosensor is used to simulate CIE standard observer.The whiteness detect system designs the filters according to Luther condition,the design makes the result accord to CIE standard observer. The hardware includes data sample module and data process module. In order to ensure the real time ability of sample data and better anti-jamming ability, this paper selects Analog Devices Company’s high accuracy analog to digital convertor AD976. TMS320DM642 is adopted as the core of data process module, it meet the requirement of speed and accuracy in whiteness detect system. Finally, this paper makes performance test and error analysis for the detecting system. The experiment indicates the system can not only detect the grain’s whiteness, but also can calculate the grain’s chromatism. The whiteness detect system can impersonality and roundly appraise the grain’s color comparing past systems.
