With the rapid development of network technology and computertechnology, the network teaching is becoming more and more common. VirtualReality is also gradually being recognized by everyone and is widely used inmany fields, such as military field, medical field, entertainment and so on.People are beginning to realize that the virtual laboratory has importantapplication in the field of education and begin to build many virtual laboratoryof different disciplines. Open virtual experiment system based on virtualreality technology is a virtual information integration environment, it has allthe features of the real laboratory. Virtual laboratory is essentially a laboratorywithout walls. Virtual reality technology can simulate real laboratoryequipment and experimental environment. Through well-developed network,users can collaborate together to complete an experiment and shareinformation without the limit of place and time. It is the trend of developmentof the laboratory building. Traditional mechanical drawing of surveying andmapping is a very important part of engineering graphics. It requires a lot ofexperimental teaching equipments. The students need to go to the laboratory to disassemble and analyze mechanical parts. Due to the limited funding andexperimental equipments shortage, students can not conduct experiments. Theestablishment of the virtual laboratory saves the cost of buying a large numberof teaching models. It also can be extended to other courses and otherprofessional teaching and scientific research.The development of virtual reality technology has been introduced in thispaper. A detailed description of its characteristics, classification, compositionis introduced in this paper. According to their development status, thecharacteristics of several different virtualization software and their respectivestrengths and weaknesses, Virtools is chosen to be the main tool ofdevelopment. The whole system development process and the composition ofstructure of the system are described. Virtools does not have the modelingcapabilities. In order to ensure the accuracy of the model, SolidWorks isselected to model and assemble mechanical parts. Scene is established in3DSMAX and can be rendered to ensure the effect of the reality. This system canshow the internal structure of the pump and the order of assembly between thevarious parts. Students can learn assembly knowledge through this system.Finally the paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of virtualmeasuring system of gear pump system in development and application.Prospect of system optimization is given in the end.
