As a kind of unit technology of virtual product design technology, virtual assembly is playing an important role in virtual manufacturing and dynamic simulation. And the virtual assembly technology, which is the important link of virtual product design and manufacturing, is drawing more and more attention of people. A Solidworks based visualization virtual assembly prototype software is development after detailed research and discussion.First, the literature and newly development on virtual assembly and assembly sequence planning at home and abroad is thoroughly reviewed in the thesis. Based on this review, the thoughts and methods of the research and the prototype software development are sketchily described in the thesis. The expression and identification method of the components in the hierarchy assembly model, the description of space position and orientation of the products components are all detailed researched in the thesis. Then the prototype software is developed based on SolidWorks features based parameterization modeling technology by Visual Basic 6.0.Second, based on the one-level gear reducer, the disassembly sequence and path which are input via interaction are computed and processed in the system by taking the descriptions of motion states and transformation matrix as its basal principle. After the disassembly feasibility checking according to real-time disassembly simulation and collision detection, the disassembly sequence and path are reversed to corresponding assembly sequence and path so that the whole assembly planning is implemented. According to this research the performance of product can be verified rapidly. And also redesign of product can be performed according to the feedback of assembly performance verification so that the development leadtime will be shorten.Finally, a conclusion is given and the direction for the future research is put forword.
