With the rapid development of information technology, electromagnetic environment has become increasingly complex. In the field of irregular terrain conditions, the propagation of electromagnetic wave is affected by various factors such as topography, vegetation, and climate which will cause delay spread and multipath fading and will greatly reduce the communication quality of the mobile communication system. Field research of complex electromagnetic environment on irregular terrain field is particularly important to the mobile communication network. It is directly related to the level and quality of network quality and network construction costs. Furthermore, the visualization of electromagnetic environment is helpful for the service provider planning and optimizing the network. Therefore, the studies of complex electromagnetic environment and its visualization under irregular terrain have great significant. In this thesis, irregular terrain model is used as electromagnetic propagation model. The research was carried out to develop a simulation platform of complex electromagnetic environment visualization which is based on ArcGIS Engine components and Microsoft’s.NET Framework. Firstly, this thesis solved the modeling of three-dimensional terrain by studying the encoding rules of digital elevation model and the principle of coordinate transformation. Secondly, the traditional irregular terrain model is improved by optimizing the algorithm of calculation of the irregular terrain parameters. The required parameters are calculated by concerning the specific geographical terrain rather than estimate the terrain information to get a more realistic electromagnetic momentum distribution. Finally, this thesis improved the rendering method in ArcGIS Engine by proposing a new rendering method which controls the three bands of visible light individually. This method greatly enriched the color types expressed and make the effect of color rendering more expressive. This thesis accumulated the experience both in technology study and engineering practice in visualization of complex electromagnetic environment under irregular terrain. The visualization platform developed in this thesis can be used both in the field of communication network planning and decision-making on the military battlefield.
