3D-Visualization is a new hot research topic and combined Computer Graphics with Geographical Information System in recent years. Its main idea is application of the geology data that the geography information system collects, by setting up the mold through a geography, the texture reflecting to shoot, the light shining on the model enactment, choice of projection model and terrain cruising function, the dynamic manifestation of terrain with high 3D can be carried out. That technique is abroad used in battlefield environment simulation, entertainment and 3D game, cruise in terrain scene, road choosing, soil plan, WebGIS.This paper makes the survey to visualization technology quickly and really of three-dimensional terrain model on the basis of consulting relevant documents. It is mainly to create square grid of terrain surface by using digital elevation model. On the condition, it also proposed a model of processing digital elevation model data multiresolutionally with the methods of wavelet. All these, the result will realize the purpose of increasing the scene frame rate. In the paper focal point put the model simplification with wavelet transform.Finally based on the theoretic research accomplishment of this paper combined related program, the author developed a 3D cruise system using OpenGL technology in Visual C++ development environment. Functions of this system are as follows: data import and reconstruction, digital elevation model simplification export, 3D digital model and texture paste, fly route display setting flight simulation. And user can understand the terrain from many aspects by cruising function and projection.
