In recent years, the growth of3D stereo display technology has made the Virtual Reality become the truth. Although audience can experience the visual enjoyment from stereo videos in manner of immerse and interactive, but if they spend a long time, it may cause unwell symptom such as visual fatigue, vertigo, etc. These reactions have influence the popularization and development of stereo display technology. Therefore, the research of visual fatigue in stereo viewing environment becomes the urgent problem and research hotspot recently. The eye’s structure and human visual characteristic are described at first. At the same time, the existing stereo display technologies are introduced and analyzed why all kinds of3D display type can lead to visual fatigue. Three objective fatigue factors are come up with and they affect the visual sense of human eye based on the depth image and information entropy--spatial structure, comfort zone and movement scale. They explain the reasons of visual fatigue from different aspects. Double objective visual fatigue prediction model is proposed based on the motion status of the video shot’s background. Then subjective experiment is conducted to verify the rationality of the objective results and get the statistics of different experimental results. The grading results quantitatively reflect the human’s subjective feeling of fatigue. The proposed algorithm provides more reliable performance in terms of correlation with the subjective test results compared with a conventional algorithm. Finally some measures have been put forward which can slow down the fatigue when viewers watch stereoscopic videos. To the stereo video, both the limitation of the convention and contradiction in comfort zone and the style of the shot change can reduce the uncomfortable feeling in visual environment effectively.
