The ceria-based polishing powder is the most widely used polishing material. With its perfect crystal structure, satisfying fineness, high efficiency, long-life, and unique polishing performance, it is extensively applied to Hi-Tech fields, such as the optical glass, electronic products, etc. Most of high-performance RE (rare earth) polishing powder for LCD is depending on importation, therefore studing the preparation of polishing powder for LCD had the vital practical significance.On this topic, A CeO2-based polishing powder was synthesized by a neutral precipitation method, starting from Ce2(CO3)3, taking mixed solution of NH4HCO3and NH3·H2O used as the precipitant. The preparation process was investigated, including concentration of CeCl3, mole ratio of NH4+and Ce3+, fluorination, precipitation temperature, feeding time, maturing temperature and calcination temperature with the method of single factor, and the optimal conditions in every stage were obtained.Meanwhile, The effect factor of rare polishing powder function was researched with adding organic surface active agent and inorganic additives into the preparation process. The product was characterized by SEM, particle size testing, Zeta potential, XRD, etc. Results showed that the product was CeO2, the appearance was polyhedral global, the average particle size D50was about1.748μm, the Zeta potential was about-44.71mV, and the CeO2was cubic fluorite crystallite, the powder showed a good dispersion in water. The characteristics meet the requirement for high-performance polishing powder. The study laid the foundation for industrial production of high-performance RE polishing powder for LCD.
