With the development of transportation, traffic accidents have become the current serious problems for all countries. Fatigue driving is one of the prime factors that caused a traffic accident. Fatigue detection based on Machine Vision has great advantages in real time, accuracy, no-contact, applicability and economic area and has become a hot research.Based on the research of other people’s work, this paper think night is the period driver often feel tired.So we get the positive driver images using a special infrared light and develop an effective driver fatigue detection method in accordance with the characteristics of infrared images. The whole method is divided into four processes:Face detection and location,Tracking of the human face,distinguished of human eye closure, distinguished of human mouth closure and Driver fatigue recognition. In this paper, the content and main results are as follows:Face detection and location. Face Detection is the preliminary work in the driver fatigue detection. The traditional methods are mostly based on skin color segmentation algorithm and the gray-scale projection method. This two methods have high requirements in illumination, and can not exactly locate human face in uneven illumination, lack of light or frequent changes of poses. This paper starts from rough detect, uses Otsu algorithm to threshold image and then propose a new algorithm using horizontal and vertical projection and regional connectivity to accurately locate faces based on advantages of a simple background and higher brightness of face region in infrared images. This method not only can accurately detect the positioning face, but also less affected by the light, not sensitive to changes in attitude. It solves the problem skin color segmentation and gray projection can not exactly position because of the affection of illumination.Determined of the state of the human eyes.Eye location is an important part of detection of driver fatigue,in the past,traditional methods are targeted to locate eyes,and then find the feature points around the eyes,what we judge status depend on. Based on the careful analysis of the characteristics of infrared images and using a variety of binarization algorithm for image processing and then comparing each other,we take respective advantages of otsu algorithm and niblack algorithm and implement different treatment to determine the state of the eyes.This algorithm avoids the complex calculations,determine accurately,has a good speed and completely meet the requirements of real time.Determined of the state of the mouth.The state of the mouth is an aid to fatigue testing,in the past,eyes location is always based on the location of mouth.The mouth location is determined by red pigment points of the lips,while,in the infrared photos,the information of color has been lost.According to the driver’s jaw movement when yawning,we discriminate if the driver is fatigue indirectly.According to PERCLOS principle, this paper using the method of calculating eye areas to monitor driver fatigue in real time. For driving at night is the high incidence of fatigue period, this method takes infrared light as the light resource and resolve the instability of dim light in night.All the algorithm this article taken is simple and effective, low complexity, not only be not sensitive to the impact of illumination, but also has better tolerance and robustness.This thesis adopts MATLAB7.0to develop the algorithm of the location and recognization of the driver’s face in the driver fatigue monitor system, and makes the related test and computer simulation to show the correctness of this study.
