Network video surveillance systems have been widely used in industrial and everyday familylife. The developing trend is coming to intelligent, digital and high-definition with low-power andhigh-rate. Because the embedded technology can achieve low power consumption, while a newgeneration of video compression standard H.264with good coding efficiency can improve networkutilization. Therefore, the combination of those two technologies is the future direction ofmonitoring system.This article raises a network video surveillance solution based on B/S mode. The developmentis focused on circuit board hardware development, an external circuit camera module interfacedesign and communication mechanisms, the key technology of video collection and encoding anddecoding, video transmission and server. To accomplish the video surveillance system, we proposedto TI’s OMAP4430processor as the core hardware development platform, and embedded Linux assoftware development environment. First, design the hardware circuit of each module, includinginterface and external camera module. Then create cross-compiler environment, build a system ofhardware and software development environment. Finally realize the video data acquisition,encoding and transmission. Classified with function, the system is divided into three modules: thecapture module, H.264compression module and transmission module. Capture module is to receivethe original video data collection and storage through V4L2driver framework. Encoding moduleintroduces the new generation of video compression standard H.264, describes the technicaladvantages and features of H.264, and implements H.264hardware encoding. Transmission modulebuilds a server using open source server framework-Live555, finishes RTP video packettransmission. Finally, the function of the system is tested.
