The concept of cloud computing’ was first brought up by Google in2006. Now it has become one of the hottest technologies in the IT industry. Not only Google but also many other IT giants like IBM, Amazon and HP are devoting themselves to the researching and developing of cloud computing. Telecom operators are also setting their foot on this gigantic IT reform, involving themselves actively in this new technology. As an integral part of the China Telecom, service network consumes a large portion of IT resources by providing subscribers with various value-added services such as ringtone, multimedia messaging and WAP. Cloud computing applying in service network is expected to solve such problems occurred in the current telecom system as low resource utilization, frequent platform construction, high investment cost, loose management and high energy consumption. This paper discusses the application of cloud computing in the service network of China Telecom. Starting with an introduction of the background and concept of cloud computing, the paper analyzes the current application of cloud computing in the telecom industry and proposes that cloud computing application in the service network is a crucial point to introduce the technology to China Telecom. The paper further analyzes the current situation and existing problems of the service network of a telecom branch in a province, and proposes to construct a cloud computing telecom service network through integrating or deploying service platforms and virtual desktops into the cloud resource pool. The paper continues to evaluate the outcome of the cloud construction in the service network and concludes that the introduction of cloud computing has effectively resulted in realizing resource sharing, improving resource utilization, lowering energy consumption, speeding the service deployment and reducing investment cost. The paper aims to provide a valuable reference to the construction of cloud service network for other China Telecom branches.
