Analysis And Design Of Beacon Measurement Request Processing Module In Wlan System

The IEEE802.11WLAN standard realizes communication between access points and switches from different vendors, but it does not allow the WLAN system to access radio resources of clients. This defect limits the ability of management agencies to effectively manage their networks. Therefore, the IEEE working group developed the802.11k protocol as a wireless resource management standard, and formally promulgated it in2008.As a proposed standard for radio resource measurement, the802.11k protocol provides a way that AC or Fat AP can query the available wireless environment information in the surrounding to STAs, in order to manage the STAs better. Among them, beacon measurement is a set of standard methods defined by802.11k, and through the request/report mechanism, AC or Fat AP can obtain beacon information collected by STAs, and then analyze and use it. Beacon measurement function is realized in this project.Firstly, application background, working principle and function needs of beacon measurement are analyzed in general. Secondly, design and implementation of beacon measurement request processing module are made with great emphasis. In order to realize the beacon measurement, AC or Fat AP first needs to transmit beacon measurement request, and then receive the beacon measurement report replied by the clients which support the802.11k protocol. In order to transmit the beacon measurement request, the command line or WEB is first used to enable beacon measurement function and configurate beacon measurement mode and beacon measurement request interval in the AC or Fat AP, and then a beacon measurement request action frame is constructed, and last a transmiting proposal is designed and implemented based on the characteristics of tunnel technology and wireless device management. According to the proposal, two timers are used to control the action frame’s transmiting, and the frame is first sent to AP by TLV through LWAPP tunnel and CAPWAP tunnel, and then sent by AP to STAs, so that STAs can do beacon measuring and return the beacon measurement report.According to repeated tests, this system has reached the expected purpose and beacon measurement function is realized after the completion of the module code. At present, the product that integrates beacon measurement function has been put into production, and the market prospect is good. Finally, the dissertation ends with the conclusion and expectation of the sub-module.
