Rectangular optical waveguide is the basic element of the manufacture of integrated optical devices, for example, wavelength division multiplexing, arrayed waveguide grating and concave grating. In this paper, the mode field distribution characteristics, the diffraction characteristics of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode and the coupling characteristics between rectangular optical waveguide Eoo’’mode and fiber LP01mode are analysed.A mode field approximate expression of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode is given. The function formula of total power of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode is obtained. Based on the angular spectrums principle of plane wave, the expression of frequency spectrums of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode is deduced. The second moment mode field half width, differential operator mode field half width and beam propagation factors of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode in x and y axile are analysed. The spatial frequency half width of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode is numerical analysed by power in the quadrate bucket, and the curve of rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode spatial frequency half width defined by power in the quadrate bucket versus normalized frequency is obtained.Based on the mode field approximate expression of rectangular optical waveguide Eooy mode, the relationships of the coupling efficiency between rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode and fiber LP01mode versus normalized frequency or rectangular optical waveguide aspect ratio are numerical calculated. The value ranges of normalized frequency or rectangular optical waveguide aspect ratio are obtained, when the coupling efficiency is more than0.99. The relatively calculative error of the coupling efficiencies between rectangular optical waveguide E00y mode and fiber LP01mode with gaussian approximation is analysed.
