The editing operation on existing3D models is not only an important means to refine the model, is also an important way to generate new models. The triangular mesh is one of the most popular representations for3D models. Aiming at the triangular mesh model, this paper focuses on some techniques of model stitching and fusion, and content-aware model resizing. The main work and achievements in this article are as follows:1) Based on the Hermite interpolation scheme, a novel approach of mesh seamless stitching and fusion is proposed, which can be adapted for two meshes with the arbitrary under-stitching boundary point sets. Firstly, the boundary point sets are selected from the blending regions of two meshes. The two boundary curves can thus be interpolated by B-spline curves respectively. Then, the transition surface can also be created by Hermite functional blending using two boundary curves. Finally, the blending region can be triangulated and smoothing to form the resultant mesh.2) Based on surface deformation scheme, a novel visual saliency guided content-aware model resizing approach is also presented in this paper. Firstly, the edge sensitivity measure is determined by edge saliency value and slippage value. Owing to the edge sensitivity measure, a quadratic energy function can thus be constructed to guide feature-preserving model resizing. Finally, the original model can be non-homogeneously scaled according to the per-edge scales solved by iteratively minimizing the quadratic energy function. Our visual saliency guided model resizing scheme can benefit not only for the global resizing procedure but also for the local resizing operation that along a user-defined scaling direction.3) In order to efficiently investigate some mesh editing techniques, a modeling and editing software for triangular meshes is designed and implemented. The software allows user to import and export3D models, and also provides some basic interactions, such as modeling dragging and viewpoint changing, etc. In addition to integrating our model editing methods proposed in this paper into the software, some commonly used techniques are also included in our software, such as, model offsetting and shape deformation. The study on techniques about model stitching and fusion, and content-aware model resizing is important both for theoretical significance and practical value. In each section, the research status is firstly presented. Then, our theoretical model and corresponding algorithms are illustrated. And we give some experimental results and practical examples to show the effectiveness of our proposed methods.
