Aerial relay system refers to the use of near-earth aircraft platforms loaded with radio relay equipment to achieve "air-air" and "air-ground" communication in wide or local areas. The plantforms mainly include UAV, stratospheric airships and tethered balloons.Antenna is the key component of the aerial relay system which transmits and receives signals. The performance of the communication system depends largely on the quality of the antenna and whether the design of the structure, weight and other parts is reasonable or not. Due to the special application scenarios of aircraft, the design of antenna array have to take the aerodynamic performance of the original aircraft into consideration. On the other hand, to realize lightweight and compact structure is a must. This parper is based on the background of project including the theoretical analysis and model simulation. Research mainly includes the following sections:Firstly, the research of microstrip antenna applied on aerial relay platform and the key elements for designing is finished, which provides a theoretical basis for the subsequent realization.Secondly, a dual-band antenna with coplanar waveguide feeding which is suitable for the aircraft to carry is proposed, and detailed performance parameters are given.Thirdly, a broadband planar antenna with L-shaped probe feeding is proposed which can meet the communication demands of the aerial relay platform. Finally, research on microstrip power divider and the design of antenna array feed network is complete. Meanwhile, the1×4linear array is proposed and tested after simulation and parameter optimization based on the preliminary design of broadband planar antenna unit.
